International Education for ages from two to eighteen

Boarding

Moral education underpins the whole ethos of the school and characterise the way in which students and teachers work. This is extended to the boarding house in the way the students and housemother work together as a “family unit”.

Security: The Boarding house is surrounded by a wall and has a 24 hour security guard.

Accommodation: The boarding house is situated in the pleasant residential area Haie Vive, Cotonou a few minutes walk away from the school buildings.

Organisation: The boarding facility is comprised of air-conditioned bedrooms which sleep four students per room. The rooms are furnished with bunk beds. A communal dining area and lounge are provided for the taking of meals and for homework sessions. A satellite television is available for students to keep up to date with international news. Students are expected to participate in the “family unit” whilst under the supervision of the housemother as any brother or sister might participate with their own family members.

Daily Programme: The day begins at 6:00 when the students prepare themselves for school. Breakfast is provided before they depart for school, which begins at 07:55. The school lunch break is at 12:00 and the students will be provided with lunch to take with the day students. The afternoon session commences at 13:15 and finishes 14:45, and there are “after school” activities provided on the school premises between 15:00 and 16:00. The students will then return to the boarding houses for a snack and a cold drink before they begin their homework. Dinner/supper will be provided at 18:30 after which time homework will be completed. The students will then have time to prepare their bags for school and read until 20:00 when they must prepare for bed. “Lights out” is at 20:30.

Weekends: are a chance for the students to socialise as a family and recreational activities are provided in the form of sports and swimming. The school has a playing field, which the students may also use. During the weekends students will also be expected to tidy and clean their rooms and help to prepare the weekend meals in order to learn the personal skills necessary for their later life.

Personnel: A housemother, qualified to degree level and able to supervise homework, is in overall control of the boarding house. There is also a cook, a cleaner and security guard working at the house in order for the students to have the adult support needed to provide a secure environment.

Parental Involvement: We value prompt parental attention and welcome informal approaches on any matter concerning their child’s education or well being in school or in the boarding house. Parents will receive a written report from the housemother at the end of each term. Parents are requested to contact school directly if they wish to discuss any of these aspects. This allows a quick response by the school to perceived problems so that they can be solved. Parents may arrange to contact students by phone between 12:30 and 13:00 during the school day.
