Although not a Montessori School the school day follows Montessori principles and encourages children to explore and develop skills through play and from extension activities arising from play.
The curriculum is broadly based to nurture the holistic development of the individual: |
|
· Pre-reading and pre-writing skills are emphasised at entry into the school so the child begins to read and write as soon as possible.
· A foreign language is started when children are naturally acquiring language so they are exposed to a second language as soon as they begin to master their first.
· Self-expression is developed through drawing, painting, modelling, cutting, pasting, music, singing, dance and drama.
· Technology and science we develop through sand and water play constructional equipment and experimentation.
· Mathematics is developed with a “hands on” approach and mathematical apparatus is essential at this level so those abstract concepts have a root in the child’s physical experience.
· Information technology, singing, dancing, ball skills and games are also included in the curriculum.
· Moral education underpins the whole ethos of the school and characterise the way in which pupils and teachers work and interact.
· Homework is minimal at infant level but it is considered an essential part of the learning process. |
