A Farm-tastic Time!

On Tuesday the 25th of February, Reception and Year 1 went on a full-day excursion to our classmate Tonia Houssou-Lecluze’s family farm.  It was a great way to deepen our understanding of our Term 2 Topic: Food and Nutrition.

Dig up yummy roots (carrots and beets) and pluck tasty leaves (lettuce and mint)

In class, we love talking about which part of the plant our fruits and vegetables come from.  Well, at the farm, we actually got to dig up yummy roots (carrots and beets) and pluck tasty leaves (lettuce and mint)!

Classmates even collected over two-dozen eggs

We also identified which foods come from plants and which ones come from animals.  We saw cows and their milk, chicken and their eggs.  Some of our classmates even collected over two-dozen eggs, which Tonia’s mom prepared and served with a fresh lettuce and beet salad!  Combined with the delicious vegetable fritters and samosas brought by Layal’s mom, we had a farm feast!

Animals on the farm

The children drew and coloured images of plants and animals they saw that day.  Ostriches and rabbits were favourites, by far!
