Pancake Day
The 3rd of March was Pancake Day. In assembly, Mrs. Carsky told us how in England people celebrate their pancake festival. She said that the English people celebrate their festival with games and stories and of course, eating pancakes.
We can celebrate it by playing a game. The English people throw a big pancake to the people and the person who grabs the biggest piece of the pancake will have a prize like a story book, a bible or money.
There is a story of how the day got started about a woman who heard the bell of the church. Because after that day it would be the Christian Ash Wednesday, and she wanted to be first at church, she ran out of her house with messy hair and a pan with a pancake inside.
At 10:00 a.m. we went outside to play and wait for our pancakes. First it was Reception and Year 1, after, Years 2 and 3, and finally Years 4 and 5. There were many flavours. There was chocolate pancake, sugar pancake, coconut pancake, etc. I chose the chocolate one because it was yummy.
At 12:00 p.m. we were all full because our pancakes were so big. Then we saw Years 6, 7, 8 and 9 and Years 10, 11 and 12. We got to play with our friends in the Middle School and buy more pancakes. It was a fun day!
