English International School Newsletter of the 12th April 2024

Dear Parents,

We have settled into our third term at school, and it promises to be a busy and exciting one. A couple of new families have joined us, and we heartily welcome the children and parents to our school community.

The month of April is known to be one of the hottest and most humid months in Cotonou and temperatures seem to have become higher at this time in recent years. Teachers are alert and are making sure that children stay hydrated during the day. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a bottle full of water. Some of the older children have been wearing heavy sweaters, which are not needed at this time of year and may cause them to perspire excessively. Teachers have spoken to them about this in the interest of their health and hygiene.

After-School Activities – Term 3

After-school activities began this week. Please consult the After-school Activities section of the website and kindly settle activity fees with instructors on the first lesson day.

Cambridge Externally Moderated Examinations

External Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint Examinations for Year 6 and Year 9 will be held from 22nd - 25th April. IGCSE Foreign language French, Second Language speaking, and Art examinations will take place during the weeks of 15th and 22nd April, respectively.

Cambridge written IGCSE and AS/A-level Examinations will begin on 25th April and run through 13th June. Students in Years 11 – 13 have received their exam timetables and letters have gone out to parents regarding the exam period and the study days.

DELF (Département de Langue Française) Exams – Institut Français

DELF exams begin this month, with different dates scheduled depending on your registration. E.I.S. French teachers have provided information at school, along with encouraging participation to receive this qualification awarded by the French Ministry of Education. Such a qualification is valid for university applications, future careers and is a good a motivator to improve French language skills. Further information regarding these exams may be obtained at the Institut Français.

Earth Day – Monday, 22nd April

Earth Day, the annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection, reaches its 54th anniversary this year. We shall acknowledge the day in school, the theme of which is Planet vs. Plastics.
