As we are in the month of March, we draw our attention to the following events and activities:
The Globe Theatre’s Production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet – Sunday, 8th March 2015 at 16:00
We look forward to seeing you at this special performance to be held on the School Field. It will be a free performance, but a donation basket will be passed around to help cover the company’s touring costs. Please note that the play is not suitable for young children. More information about the Globe Theatre tour can be found at: http://globetoglobe.shakespearesglobe.com/
International Women’s Day – Sunday, 8th March
The 2015 theme is: ‘Make it happen.’ This important day is discussed in classes, in an effort to raise awareness for gender equality at all levels.
Swimming Gala – Postponed to the morning of Thursday, 12th March 2015
We have explained to the children that this change was due to circumstances beyond our control, and that although we regret the inconvenience, we are pleased that Hôtel du Port is doing a thorough cleaning of the swimming pool. Mr. Junior has taken the time to review the rules of the event with the children. He announces his availability at the Hôtel du Port swimming pool this Saturday from 10:00 – 12:00, if parents wish to bring their children along for extra practice. (The swimming pool’s weekend entrance fee is 2,000 francs CFA per child.)
School Fair: Saturday, 21st March 2015, 15:00 – 19:00 on the School Field
Preparations are well underway for this upcoming community event on Saturday, 21st March, but there is still time to contact Mrs. Ebun Afolabi (97.69.37.04) and Mrs. Aicha Mehablia (220.127.116.11) if you wish to help. We count on your support and look forward to seeing you there to enjoy the fun games, delicious food, entertainment and grand tombola (raffle).
World Water Day – 22nd March
The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We shall acknowledge this day in school, even though it will fall on a Sunday this year. We encourage parents to explore and discuss this day’s importance at home to reinforce the focus placed on it in school. This year’s theme is Water and Sustainable Development.
Child Progress Conferences – Monday, 23rd March
Child Progress Conferences will be held on this day for all parents. Lower, Middle and Upper School teachers will send out appointment slips to correspond with their desired meeting times.
You may have heard from your child that a snake was seen on the field. I wish to report that once verified, the following measures were promptly taken: 1. The snake was killed by a member of staff. 2. The grounds were searched and fumigated. 3. The children were kept from going to the field at playtime during the week. We have taken the opportunity to discuss snakes’ habitats and behaviour in classes, with the goal of best understanding how to be safe in sharing their territory in Africa and other parts of the world.
